find rest

Today is one of those days that feels like everything is a bit out of control, the sort of day where you feel like you are walking in perpetual fog.  Those are the days where you make all sorts of rash decisions, like chopping your hair off or deciding to quit your job. Luckily I made neither of these decisions today… but I considered both. I’m fairly certain that if I had quit my job and chopped my hair today I’d end up homeless and probably be mistaken for a man on a regular basis…

I think that I tend to veer this way when I’m feeling restless, I find it very hard to just be still. I constantly get caught up in forgetting the peace that I have been given and ignoring the growth that I could be experiencing. Worry, frustration, fear, impatience, my view of silence and lack of activity makes me feel as if being still is a negative thing, when in fact it is just a time for me to grow and experience the present.

These are very hard concepts for most people my age and for Americans in general I think. We constantly have to be entertained or amused. We are always looking for the next great thing in our lives, we search so much for a future that we ignore the present.

Maybe it’s because our search is within our own wisdom and not His…

Be encouraged. Find rest. Learn.

  1. So thoughtful and heartfelt.

Thank you for sharing the video. I love it! It is perfect! I am sharing it on my facebook/twitter pages.

    • I admire you! I’m slowly working on becoming one of those people… my entertainment and amusment don’t tend to come in the normal forms of tv and the like… rather it comes from my desire to constantly be busy and active… I think most of us have some form of amusment.

  3. I enjoyed your post. I find myself getting chased down and tackled by rest (passing out) instead of finding and making time to enjoy quiet. Like you, I’m working on it and realizing that God made down time for a reason…
